Casa Lis and Catalunya

If you'd like to see my less-than-spectacular Casa Lis photos looking better, post-Photoshop, skip over to John's site. Then check out his photo tour of Girona, which has convinced me I need to fit Catalunya into my travels soon. I've fallen in love with this creature hanging onto a pole for dear life. Is it a cat, really, John? The paws looking almost beaverish, or minkish...I pictured a horrible flood and this poor critter trying to escape. Know the story?

He's also put together a wonderful gallery of photos of doors in Catalunya which is well worth the trip over.

  • Yes, it is a cat, I think 12th or 13th century. Notice how the children-loving Spanish have built a set of steel steps so that little kids can climb up and pet it. Seriously.
Sorry for the quality of those pictures in that web photo gallery which a software program created. I should really upload the originals to Flickr. Lots more of Barcelona, Granada and the Alhambra, too.
If that window wall on Casa Lis faces south, their air conditioning bill must be stupendous.

  • I wondered what those were! Children's stairs! Oh I love that!

It's South. Checked and double checked. Funny thing, none of my Spanish guides mention any compass directions or include them on maps, but I snuck a peek at an English Lonely Planet, and it faces South, down toward the river and the Roman bridge which apparently was the South entrance to walled Salamanca.

  • Oh, Erin, could you verufy the link of the casa lis gallery on John's website, it doesn't look to be working for me.

And yes, if you are coming to visit Cataluña, I'm sure you can get a Cosmo at Boadas in Barcelona (Rambla de Cataluña.

By the way, I would like to meet you if you pass through Barcelona.

  • No, not working for me either, all of a sudden, Alex. My theory is that John is working on it.

He was just online (he just responded, above) so I wonder if he's taking the photos over to flicker?

    It's www.observedesign.com/casalis/

And yep, you've got a deal in BCN, just don't know when I'll get there...I've just planned a few months of good trips, and now John tempts me with Girona.

  • Casa Lis Can't forget the hypertext markup language now.
My Flickr page is where I've recently added some old photos. (For new, I'll have to get back to Spain) And I just found this-well done Gaudi site
And in Barcelona go to the last tapas bar facing the far side of the harbor. No tourists.
